What is the Akshaya Patra Foundation?
Akshaya Patra Foundation is the mid-day meal programme running all over India. It is a non-profit organization, which distribute fresh food all over India.

This organization stands tall as a great example of what can be accomplished with a collaboration of cost-effective, scalable solution with high-quality service delivery.
How This All Started – History: –
The start-up of this foundation starts with a story – A story of compassion. Once Swami Prabhupada saw a group of children fighting with street dogs over scraps of food. From such heart-breaking incident started a strong determination to provide food to all children within a radius of ten miles.
They started by planting a tree and kitchen in ISKCON, Bangalore. The kitchen would provide fresh-cooked food for those underprivileged children. When people work for the betterment of others, they have always been appreciated.
In 2003, Akshaya Patra partnered with Karnataka government under a mid-day meal scheme.
The idea was brilliant and easy for the student, as all they had to eat is in their own school food.
As the 10 miles radius was being covered, a mission started to cover the whole of India. Now Akshaya Patra covers in 10 states (Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, New Delhi, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh).

1) Centralise Kitchen: –
Every centralized kitchen is upgraded kitchen. Most of these kitchens are at city areas. The Centralised kitchens consist of cauldrons, trolleys, rice chutes, dal/sambar tanks, cutting boards, knives and other similar equipment that are sanitized before usage.
Each Dal Cauldron has the capacity to cook 1200 liter to 3000 liters of dal. While rice cauldron has 500 liters of capacity.
2) Decentralise Kitchen: –
In the remote location, you can find lots of difficulties like difficult geographical province, improper road connectivity, and load shedding. It is very difficult to operate the centralized Kitchen. So the finest solution is to build a decentralized kitchen. This problem does not support the large infrastructure.
The decentralized kitchen contains all necessary kitchen equipment like chapati pans, cooking vessels for rice and dal. Akshaya Patra also provides vessels for transporting the cooked mid-day meals to the schools.
As this is a remote region people are less known for their personal hygiene and Food Safety. The foundation of Akshaya Patra provides training about personal hygiene and Food safety to worker and kitchen staff. This ensures the hygiene standards are met.
