Meet Young Reuben Paul – A Hacker Who’s Changing the World in his Own Way
In this World, where most of the 5-year-old kids are still busy doing their homework, playing with toys. Here comes a 5-year-old Reuben Paul, with immense interest in the field of computers changing the way every other 5-year-old kid sees. Reuben Paul is not different from others — He takes Kung Fu, Swim lessons and spends more of the time with his friends.
During an interview on Reuben’s dad Mano Paul with iDigital Times, he said –
I remember when he was five, he used words like firewalls and I was totally surprised that a kid could understand and pick those things.
What makes Reuben Paul different from other kids?
When Reuben Paul was in his 1st grade, his teacher brought up a class test of drawing a picture of “My Job”. Reuben drew about his dream job. This picture describes the secret injection hacking technique through the cloud. This is a firewall full of holes, and the kid is Reuben just chilling out as he owns the computer.
The only thing which separates Reuben Paul from every other kid is an extra effort all above the others. The day, he spends is similar to every other, but at night he transforms into a cybersecurity researcher ka “hacker”. With abilities to hack into smartphones and system of unsuspecting victims.
How Reuben Paul grew his interest in Cyber Security?
This all starts with his father, Mano Paul who works in a cybersecurity field as a CEO of SecuRisk Solutions. Mano used to explain some basic terms of cybersecurity, such as firewall, cloud computing. On the other hand, Reuben Paul showed such high interest in this field, that he used to be excited to learn more about it. Mona saw such great potential and involvement at such a young age, he began teaching more concept of cyber security and programming.
Mano said to iDigitalTimes
At age five, I introduce him to Scratch, and then by six, we were looking at real World programming and security concepts.
Interestingly, Reuben’s grasp those knowledge spotlessly but, he also got more concern about other kids’ cyber safety. To help him through his concern, Reuben’s teacher assigned him a project, which require him to design a learning game to share with the class. He came up with a full blown app, he had written called “Cracker Proof”. The app helped kids to set up a secure account password.
Cracker Proof is the first of several cyber security related gaming apps published on the Apple app store. This game shows the level of the password set, depending upon the password uniqueness — “Weak”, “Medium”, “Strong”. The teacher and school were so impressed by Reuben’s app as they encouraged him to publish it on Apple App Store, as they could buy it as a curriculum supplement.
Reuben Paul as the CEO of Prudent Games:
At an age of 8, Reuben with the help of his father, established Prudent Games – a game development company of which Reuben is the Chief Executive Officer. After publishing Cracker Proof, Reuben has successfully published two more security apps named “Crack Me If You Can” and “Think and Act like a Ninja”.
In Reuben’s interview with iDigitalTimes, he said
We live in a World with new technology and millions of apps which kids like me use. We need to teach kids to use it carefully and securely, because right now school don’t teach it.
The words of Reuben’s Cyber Security and mission spread all through the Information Security Community. He started making visits in events, and also as a keynote in various events. Mano Paul said –
There’s a lot of attraction we’re getting. Reuben is speaking and people are starting to pay attention. They see this kid who is young and yet is able to do all these things. It’s making them realize that the World of security is something serious we need to pay attention to.
After people started to realize the concept, major programs and curriculum are started for kids, parents and teachers. The beginning, which can be found at cybershaolin.org
About Reuben’s Mission: –
Mano Paul during an interview with iDigital Times, said –
We’re seeing quite a bit of awareness about security issues now, but there is still a disconnect. School hasn’t yet made this part of a curriculum. Computer education within school today are basic word processing and PowerPoint presentation — and there nothing wrong with that but I think cyber security needs to became a kind of core competency of every educational system within the US and worldwide.
Things are changing now but more teachers probably don’t even know where to turn to guidance on these things. The program that Reuben is working will include educational videos and a way of gamifying cyber security so that any kid can learn, but it will also be simple for teachers to use within classrooms as well
How Reuben Paul Found a Way of What He Wanted To Be?
It was not that Reuben was blessed with exceptional qualities of Cyber Security nor he has an exceptional IQ level. The Only thing which makes him stand different from others is the quality of finding the fun in his work. He found his passion at an early age, which is quite different from other. He also reached such height in the career by making just an extra effort or extra step each night by practicing again and again.
Reuben’s father, Mano Paul played a vital role behind Reuben success. He supported his passion, in spite of taking him casually. He helped him through skills, and best of knowledge to grow as an all-around person. Reuben’s teacher helped Reuben by pushing boundaries. Encouraging to think him outside, and also moral support to build his first app.
There so much learn more this kid, which inspire us to walk on the path of we always wanted to be.
